Workamping is one way to make money while living life on the road. But alas there are other ways that you can supplement your income. Being a workamper definitely has it's perks of getting an rv site with full hook ups for an exchange of hours. But the situation is going to be different with every season. And being a full time RVer, or anything for that matter, it's best not to keep all of your eggs in one basket. Spread out your options, so when one plan doesn't work out, you're not left in the dark.
If you consider yourself a people person, you can try your hand at sales. There are many opportunities to sale RV packages or products like Mary Kay. We've actually met quite a few individuals in our travels of people who sold Mary Kay and were successful. Living this lifestyle means you meet a lot of people and have many opportunities to make some sales.
In this day and age of the internet, online sales have made themselves a viable option. As you make your travels from one stop to the next, you can make stops at flea markets, garage sales, and small antique shops to find small treasures and sell them on a website or eBay.
If you have a photographic eye, you can sell photos of all of the landmarks that you've come across on an online stock photo site like istock.com. Bear in mind if you have people in your photos or the landmark is privately owned, you must get written consent by way of a release form from the subject or owners when you submit your photos.
And there is always the backup of a regular job. Yes, this option may not sound appealing, but remember that we're in it for the travels and if it means taking a temporary job when nothing else is available, so be it. This will still introduce you many locals and a way to meet new and interesting people.
While none of these will make you rich beyond your wildest, they will still contribute to the cause. Living this lifestyle you quickly realize that nothing is a sure thing. So don't bank on a venture to instantly pull you in some cash right away or at all for that matter. The best that I can tell you is to save as much as possible, even if it's only a penny at a time, so that not if, but when something falls through you're not taken off guard and ready to throw up your hands to the whole lifestyle. Nobody says that this way of life is easy, it does take a lot of work and you have to be able to adapt very quickly to new situations. But that's why we do it, to keep it interesting, and to keep everyday different.
